SM-094/2 Range Finder
The Range Finder and Altimeter sensors are designed for measurement of airgap and draught, ocean wave profiles and tidal variations, and water level in dams, rivers, canals, lakes etc.
Due to a low frequency of operation compared to laser sensors, fog, rain and water spray will not cause measurement problems. Small physical dimensions, low weight, and high long term stability are other advantages of these sensors.
The sensors are available in different range versions in the range from 1 to 85 meters, with different antenna beam widths.
Two different housings are available with:
Pyramidal horn antenna (SM-048/2) at range 1 - 10 m.
Patch antenna (SM-094) at ranges 1 - 10 m, 1 - 20 m, 3 - 20 m, 3 - 50 m, and 3 - 85 m.
Areas of use
Air Gap Monitoring for Very High Speed Vessel (as sensor for active ride control systems, criteria for operational safety and for analysis of hull structure strength).
Air Gap Monitoring for Offshore Platforms for monitoring of subsidence and platform trim.
Non-Directional Wave Monitoring on any installation.
Tide Monitoring from shore locations or on platform mounted installations.
Bridge Clearances Monitoring - aid to shipping passing bridges.
Level Monitoring for dams, waterways and the like.
Technology
The sensors emit a microwave FM chirp signal and receive the echo from the water surface. The signal propagation delay given by the distance from the antenna to the water surface causes a beat signal in the receiver. By means of advanced signal processing the beat frequency is converted to an accurate distance.
Data are available via RS-232 or RS-422 digital interface from both SM-048/2 and SM-094, as well as analogue output from SM-048/2. Various sorts of configuration can be done via the RS-232/RS-422 interface.
