The fish and the catch
Greenland halibut is an arctic species that prefers cold water. It lives at depths of 660 to 6,600 feet but is seldom found at depths shallower than 1,300 feet. Greenland halibut is both a bottom fish and a pelagic fish. The Norwegian spawning grounds are primarily on the northern part of the continental shelf from Vesterålen to Bjørnøya. Greenland halibut fishing takes place on the edge of the blade north of Prins Karls Forland. In early 1993, researchers found that the spawning stock as well as the total stock of Greenland halibut was at its lowest ever, and fishing of the species is now strictly regulated. Use: Greenland halibut is a fat species which is mainly sold smoked and sliced.

Nutritional content
The fat content of halibut varies by season and its food supply, and the amount of Omega 3 fatty acids fluctuate accordingly. Nevertheless, it is a good source of these fatty acids and is an excellent source of vitamin D.
